*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*

(New Westminster, BC, December 16th, 2010) It's the 5^th annual *Light
up the Quay*. What an amazing response that we have received so far from
the residents and the local sponsors. The Light up the Quay event is
for both the residents of the Quay and the people of Greater Vancouver,
more specifically those living in the City of New Westminster. While
this event has history back to 1995, the latest Board of Directors for
the Quayside Community Board (QCB) decided five years ago to revive this
festival of lights. With the Boardwalk festival & sale taking place in
the summer, the QCB determined that a festival in winter to shake off
the dull-drums was in order....thus the new reincarnation of the Light
Up The Quay. Today, several volunteers work hard to encourage everyone
to participate in this de'light'ful event.

In addition to the residents, we would also like to thank the following
businesses for helping make this event both rewarding and possible.
First, the new *River Market*, with cooperation from *Donald's Market*,
who have given us gift certificates to award in the Residential
Category, for 1^st 2^nd and 3^rd . Details of the award can be found on
the QBC website www.quaysideboard.com. The Boathouse has join in the
festivities this year, and they have teamed up with LUTQ for our first
ever *Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society Food Drive*.

Between Dec 4^th and December 20^th , if you come into *The Boathouse
Restaurant* between 3pm & 6pm, seven days a week, with a non perishable
food item for the Food Bank Box, you will receive a Boathouse "Happy
Hour Appy" for free. The response so far has been overwhelming and
already we are filling up the food bank boxes! The Boathouse has also
generously given us gift certificates for the Residential prizes for
Light up the Quay.

As is done every year, the QCB judges for the LUTQ invite the public to
join them on their walking tour of the Quay Promenade and the Quayside
Drive and participate in the judging. They can help influence the
official judges in their determination of who wins. Awards are also
being given this year for Best Building and Best Building Lobby,
sponsored by the QCB. Also, new this year is the "Clark Griswold"
Award. This category is for the Holiday Light Display that truly
reflects the National Lampoons Christmas Vacation main character, Clark
Griswold, and his misaligned attempt at a perfect (albeit weird)
Christmas. This is the award for the over the top, somewhat tacky,
totally commercialized Christmas Light display. So if you know of a
balcony, building or lobby that should not be missed by the judges, come
down at 5:30 pm to the Boathouse Restaurant on Monday, December 20th,
2010 (don't forget your non-perishable for a free appie*) and join the
walking tour which starts at 6:30pm sharp.

We would like to extend our thanks to those businesses that sponsored
the 'Griswold' Award. *Pacific Breeze Winery* has given us a wine
tasting for 4 and a bottle of their signature wine, "Killer Cab" ,
*Boston Pizza Columbia Square*, Kelsey has given us for the basket
$100.00 in coupons and certificates, Kyleena at *EV Nails* on Sixths
has supplied a gift certificate for a full set of "En Vogue" nails,
*Starbucks Columbia Square* gave us a prize package of product for the
baskets, as have the corporate offices of Starbucks, *Rogers Video
Columbia Square* offered up 4 DVD's for the winners Christmas Holiday
viewing enjoyment, *L&B Photography* has supplied a custom made calendar
for the basket, and even our board members have gotten in to the act
with some basket items supplied by *Penny McIvor* and family.

The evening concludes with the walking tour ending at the energetic
*Paddlewheeler Pub* to tabulate the scores and select these years
winners of LUTQ. A truly fun evening of lights and friends - the
ultimate in Holiday spirit.

Of course we thank *STCcreatives.com* for doing all of our marketing and
branding.

So bring family and friends for the official kick-off to Christmas at
the Quay with Light Up The Quay 2010. The Holidays just wouldn't be the
same with out it!

See you there.
