Garden Assistant
This position assists in conducting research and developing and
implementing the care and maintenance of the heirloom gardens and
orchard at the Historic Stewart Farm. The Garden Assistant is
responsible for keeping and maintaining records, the acquisition of
tools, supplies, seeds and plants and creating, implementing and
promoting the seasonal garden program. The position will recommend and
implement public programs, identify instructors and assist with the
presentation of interpretive activities. The incumbent will assist to
orient, instruct, support and recognize garden volunteers and will
support facility operations to monitor public access and protect City
assets.
This is a unique opportunity for an individual interested in outdoor
work and gardens in a heritage setting. This position requires a person
interested in working with a team of staff and volunteers to interpret
Surrey's agricultural history at this very special site.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are
required. We require a person, who is physically capable and able to
demonstrate basic gardening skills with a working knowledge of heritage
seeds. Research, maintenance of records and preparation of written
materials is a feature of this position.
Completion of Grade 12 accompanied by related post-secondary courses are
required. Further you will need to possess a valid Class 5 BC driver's
license with a safe driving record. General computer experience in
Microsoft Office is an asset. A criminal record check is required and
may be requested.
The position would be two or three 7 hour shifts per month from May to
end of November.
