Summer Employment Opportunity (Young Canada Works)
Position: Archives Assistant
The Delta Museum and Archives Society is seeking a temporary (summer)
full-time (35 hrs/wk) Archives Assistant.
Duties and Responsibilities
Scan and digitize photos for the Archives collection, including scanning,
editing (Photoshop), saving images and uploading files to online Inmagic
database, describing images according to RAD (Rules for Archival
Description), and making accessible to public.
Complete arrangement & description of historically-significant fonds,
including researching and processing, arranging and describing, according to
Archival best practices, and uploading completed finding aid description to
the online database.
Participate in the Delta Museum and Archives major summer special event on
Canada Day.
Qualifications
The candidate must fulfill all eligibility requirements of the YCW Program,
including registration on the YCW web site.
Ideally, the candidate will have completed 3 years of undergraduate study in
a relevant subject field (i.e. History) and will have some experience
working in an Archives (or similar organization such a Library or Museum),
as a volunteer, student intern or employee (3 to 6 months minimum
preferred). The candidate should have an expressed interest in working in
an Archives.
The candidate must have experience working with a PC computer and be
computer-literate. (Prefer prior experience working with Photoshop, online
databases, and scanning processes and procedures) .
A working knowledge of the Inmagic db/Textworks database software would be
an asset .
Strong organizational and time management skills .
An ability to work independently, and as part of a team .
The candidate may be in a position to work with the public, and may require
a background criminal records check.
Term of Employment
22 May through 18 August 2012; Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00am to 4:30pm,
with a half-hour unpaid lunch (occasional Sunday or Monday may be required).
Rate of Pay: $13.72/hr + 4% in lieu of vacation.
All YCW students at the DMAS are members of CUPE 454.
This position is dependent on grant funding.
