Summer Employment Opportunity (Young Canada Works)
Position: Program Assistant
The Delta Museum and Archives Society (DMAS) is seeking a temporary
(summer), full-time (35 hrs/wk) Program Assistant (PA).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be involved in several community events
including the three parades attended by the DMAS, and be responsible for
preparing and supervising the programming portion of Canada Day (activities
and contests). He/she will also be responsible for creating, coordinating
and running four summer day camp style programs for children. The remainder
of the students time will be spent coordinating and supervising activities
and volunteers for Kids Day.
Specific duties include:
- Program and event research
- Developing and writing scripts, activity plans and program reports
- Presenting educational programs and events
- Coordinating the purchase and preparation of program supplies and
materials
- Scheduling and coordinating program presenters and volunteers
- Producing promotional materials
- Participating in the evaluation of programs and events
Qualifications :
- The candidate must meet all of the eligibility requirements of the YCW
Programs, including registration on the YCW web site.
- University studies in history or education preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public
speaking/presentation experience.
- Experience working with the public (especially children) an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a high degree of tact, and an ability to
work independently, and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- A valid BC drivers' license, and occasional access to an automobile.
As this position involves working with children, a background criminal
records check will be required.
Term of Employment :
22 May to 18 August 2012. The regular work week is Tuesday to Saturday,
9:00am to 4:30pm, with a half-hour unpaid lunch (occasional Sundays and
Mondays may be required).
Rate of pay: $13.72/hr + 4% in lieu of vacation.
All DMAS summer employees are members of CUPE 454.
This position is dependent on grant funding.
