Hosted by the Vernon Public Art Gallery and Sun FM-Astral Media, the 4th
annual Riot on the Roof promises a more retro time than your favorite
cartoons of yester-year.  On Saturday August 25th, the Vernon Public Art
Gallery will transform the top two floors of the Vernon Parkade into a
celebration of alternative art, a venue that provides affordable space for
music, artwork, film, poetry, fashion and so much more-a grab bag of unique
artwork for the older youth of the Okanagan to interact with.

 

This year Riot offers music from five incredibly talented local bands.
You'll be bobbing your head along to Vernon's own Paperboy, tapping all ten
toes to Kelowna's JoyfulDoor, singing hypnotically melodic bridges with
Vernon's Windmills, shaking what your biological mother gave you with
Kamloops's based Van Damsel, and crooning your blues away with the sultry
rock/folk infused voice of Kelowna's own Devon Coyote.

 

Sharing the rooftop with these fine lads is a Calgary based fashion/mixed
media artist whose talent and works have been ooed and awed at across
Canada, including Vancouver Fashion Week this past year!  You can catch the
wonderfully (and unfairly) creative works of one, Mackenzie Jones, at Riot
on the Roof's Wearable Art Fashion Show!

 

Also in store for 2012 is the artistic creations of Dawn Tyndall's body art,
alternative sound performances from UBC-O's Professor Neil Cadger and
students, a lounge area for poetry and spoken word, live art and art
installations from local emerging artists, mural artwork, film screenings
from UBC-O's Professor Michael V. Smith as well as the VPAG's previous Youth
Ambassador, Kristen Burns with Julia Prudehomme.  Not to mention a dozen
other artistic activities, dance, door prizes and other fun surprises-this
year's Riot on the Roof is going to be huge!

 

Admission is $5, or $10, and it gets you a yearlong membership to the Vernon
Public Art Gallery, and it helps support the talented local artists,
performers and musicians who rely on your generous attendance and support.

 

Tickets are available at the Vernon Public Art Gallery and at the door*
(doors open at 6:45)**.  All ages welcome!
