The Revelstoke Railway Museum is one of Canada’s premier railway museums and is one of Revelstoke’s most visited tourist attractions. It is operated by a non-profit organization, is located on a seven-acre site and is housed in an 11,000 s.f. building (with some adjacent outdoor exhibits). There are 10 full-time employees (some seasonal) as well as over 60 volunteers who create a professional yet family-like environment. The museum, which houses many unique and rare artifacts is open year-round and operates two popular gift shops, one being off-site at the historic Craigellachie where the Last Spike of the transcontinental Canadian Pacific Railway line was driven.

Reporting to the Board of Directors you will be accountable for all facets of the museum facility providing leadership and management, while implementing the overall vision and plan.

Your career has been characterized by your success in establishing and fostering relationships within your previous organizations. This skill will ensure that strong ties are further developed and maintained with employees, members, partners, community-at-large and the museum community. In addition, you will have experience in operations management or the like, with a preferred emphasis in the development of facilities, events and exhibits. Exposure to the museum or not-for-profit environment would be preferred.
As the ideal candidate you are a seasoned manager with high integrity and a proven track record of staff leadership. You possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and well-honed day-to-day administration and financial abilities.

A college degree supplemented by progressive experience in museum management, or the like, combined with experience of working with a Board and volunteers would be a strong asset. An understanding of collection management, curatorship, museum ethics, retail sales and fundraising is essential.
