The Canadian Council of Archives (CCA), in partnership with the National Archival Appraisal Board (NAAB), is proud to announce the new 3-session webinar series NAAB Bootcamp (disponible en anglais seulement)

Monetary appraisal is a key element of archival donor relations and collections development, but how is monetary appraisal done? How should your institution prepare for monetary appraisal of a fonds/collection?
How is fair market value determined when archival materials are unique by definition, and few sales records are available from auctions, used book stores, or price guides?

NAAB appraisers provide a professional opinion of value for various reasons.  The NAAB Bootcamp has been designed specifically for highly motivated people seeking:  to learn more about monetary appraisal;
to help institutions acquire donations of cultural property as gifts in kind; and to work effectively with donors. Please join us, from the comfort of your own office or boardroom, to learn the essentials of monetary appraisal .

About NAAB
The National Archival Appraisal Board (NAAB) was formed in 1976 after the Federal government began encouraging donations in-kind of cultural property to public and charitable institutions across the wide heritage field, including archives. NAAB became an independent organization in 1983, and has since maintained the objectives: to serve the need for reasonably priced appraisal services amongst repositories; to promote greater understanding among those working with archival materials; and, to provide a balanced approach to the appraisal process by the inclusion of archivists, dealers and others familiar with the value of archival documents. NAAB appoints committees to examine archival materials, determine their value, and prepare reports regarding their fair market value. In accordance with current regulations, an institution can then issue a donor a receipt for the value stated on the appraisal report.

About CCA
The Canadian Council of Archives (CCA) is a coordinating body whose mission is to nurture and sustain the nationwide efforts of over 800 archival organizations —all operating independently but sharing a common passion for Canada’s rich and wonderfully varied history. CCA’s provincial and territorial member organizations/associations represent archival institutions from every province and territory, as well as the Library and Archives Canada, and professional organizations such as the Association des archivistes du Québec and the Association of Canadian Archivists. Together, these bodies are the custodians of Canada’s documentary heritage. Now, after over a quarter-century of perseverance, the relationship has come of age. The benefits for educational and research institutions, community and cultural organizations, cultural industries — and for Canadians in general — are recognized, acknowledged and increasingly significant in promoting a distinctive and vibrant Canadian identity. Together we strive to make Canada’s memory accessible to all.
