First, I strongly suggest taking at look at the revenue canada charities section, as there is expense \ revenue information for many museums on there.

What amount of money does your municipality contribute to the running of your museum?
We get core funding from the area within the Capital Regional District that is covered by the District of Sooke(DOS) and the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area. This funding is from a series of referendum over the past 40 years, most recently in 2009 when 83% of the public voted to increase their property taxes. Subsequent to this last referendum, the CRD has officially designated us a service, thus we are able to get increases without having to go to referendum. In our 2015\16 fiscal year of Nov- Oct we received $166,674 in cash. We also receive a tax exemption for our property from the District of Sooke and they also provide us with $20,808 to operate the visitor centre out of the museum. As a side note, the District of Sooke only became a municipality in 1999, as such when the museum started it dealt with the regional district only.
In what form does your museum receive this money – is it in the form of a grant-in-aid, a line item or does the museum receive it in some other manner?
See above
Who owns your museum building?
The Society owns the land. Originally the land was owned the Sooke Community Association, but they transferred over the land to us about 20 years ago.
Who maintains your museum building?
We do
Is there an agreement between your municipality and the museum’s non-profit society?
For the core funding through the CRD there is a bylaw. For the DOS funding of the visitor centre we have an agreement for services.
Is this agreement a lease or a memorandum of understanding or does it have another form?
See above
Do you hold public events in your museum e.g. lectures, wine-and-cheese gatherings, fundraisers?
Many
