*April 22*
*Canada 150 Provincial Forum*
*Face-to-Face or Online*
*Friday, April 22, 2016 / 9am–4pm*
*Royal Roads University, 2005 Sooke Rd. *
How do we mark a major milestone of our nation’s history? What is the
meaning of Canada 150 for British Columbia? Join us for a province-wide day
of dialogue exploring plans and opportunities to recognize and celebrate
Canada’s sesquicentennial in 2017.
The day will focus on issues, resources, partnerships, and approaches to
the anniversary, while allowing opportunities for sharing and networking.
Panel presentations and table discussions will shape the day. After an
introductory overview, participants will join in on facilitated,
small-group discussions.
Outcomes will include identifying key guiding themes, possible
partnerships, funding opportunities, creating a public database of
activities, developing and promoting provincial narratives, etc.
In advance of the forum, registrants will be asked to share their plans for
Canada’s sesquicentennial in order to create a database of activities for
distribution to all attendees. BC Heritage Branch has served as a key
communications liaison with the federal government regarding
recognition of Canada
150. One outcome of this forum will be to develop a report on B.C.’s state
of readiness to mark the sesquicentennial with events and concrete legacies
that can be used to inform and stimulate the continuing discussion with the
national program.
This forum is open to individuals/organizations in the museum, gallery,
archive, cultural centre, heritage, and history and tourism communities in
B.C.
To support province-wide participation, forum attendance is either
face-to-face in Victoria or by distance through the Royal Roads University
online learning platform that will live-stream the session and enable
facilitated online discussion in small groups.
On-campus attendees will be provided with coffee breaks and lunch.
*There are three ways to be involved: *
