The City of Burnaby is currently seeking auxiliary Museum Interpreters for the Burnaby Village Museum. This position will deliver interpretive programs, assist in the development of new programs as directed, and provide guidance to volunteers. Museum Interpreters dress in period costume while demonstrating the use of equipment and crafts within exhibits; respond to questions from visitors by conducting tours; prepare supplies and equipment for programs; perform light cleaning duties on exhibits and artifacts; and perform related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 and sound experience delivering educational programs or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate has knowledge of the educational objectives of the Museum and sound knowledge of the interpretive techniques related to informal education. Working knowledge of general British Columbia history is required, as is the ability to communicate effectively verbally and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and visitors.
Shifts for this position vary based on our operational requirements. Ideally your availability for this role will be evenings and weekends. Our season at the Museum runs from May through August and from late November through to early January each year.
