[BCMA] Refund scam alert

[Moderated BCMA subscriber listserv.]

This happened at the Museum of Vancouver.
They stated that the visited the museum and wanted an 80$ refund. He also provided us with a “bank statement” but I couldn’t find the charge in our POS. Also, his “statement” wasn’t even an attached image, it was a table graph that they wrote.

We ended up never getting back to them after it was very obvious on it being a scam.

I’ve attached the “bank statement” and the original email to this.

Burnaby Village Museum is also a no fee museum and we still had this happen too.  The date in question was also when the site was closed for the season.

A heads-up for museum and heritage sites in Metro Vancouver:



Someone recently tried to scam our museum into refunding their admission fees. Originally beginning with a false claim of “bad service” (saying we sold a ticket to their family 15 minutes prior to closing so they wanted their money back - which we had proof that it did not happen), this escalated into an accusation of “siphoning from their bank account” and a false threat of an RCMP report being filed. A copy of their “bank statement” led us to believe that he has tried the same scam with other museums and galleries.
