We have used digital photo frames here at HAMM for both our mobile unit that (pre-Covid) traveled around Vancouver Island as well as our “stay put” museum in Courtenay. We lucked out one year and bought every digital frame from our local Staples on a half price sale plus the manager donated the display models. We did all of our own scanning of the images which included additional close up details as a separate slide. We also created a template in our graphics program so we could insert a slide describing the story or grouping or just about anything that visitors could read about the topic. We currently have 5 different frames or small DVD/TV combinations throughout the museum. We are about 3000 square feet of museum (at our last location) squeezed into 1000 square feet. Our only issue is that of supplying power to displays in the exhibit islands of the room. We were able to find a donor who paid for an electrician to drop power down from the ceiling to the island units.

One option is to purchase stations where we can have our photograph collections with the history connected to them for people to access in the gallery. We would like to have several but we would like to know what companies are out there for these as well as who would be more cost effective. We understand that right now anything hands-on is not ideal, but we would like to start planning this for when we can do more hands-on things in the gallery again. Thank you all.
