[BCMA] Fee for Research Policy

For all parties, we provide 30 minutes of research for free, and charge $25 for every additional hour. Most research requests we process can be completed within 30 minutes – we often find that researchers will purchase high-res images from our photo collection during a research request at $15/image. I am also curious if any organizations out there have a distinction between individuals and for-profits when charging for research.

Hi Lee,

We conduct research requests on a by-donation basis, although I don't believe the policy is heavily enforced. I would definitely look into establishing a fee for developers and professional consultants. We have not had many requests from similar folks, although the last time we provided a developer with photos from our archives for use in a new project, we had a very difficult time contacting them in order to take a photo of the finished product for our own records. In the end we gave up trying to get back in touch with them. This has left us a little wary about working with developers for free. Perhaps a fee and a contract of some sort would be helpful...?

I hope this helps!

  Hi,

We are looking for examples of policies, forms and fees that your organization might charge for historical research. At this point our general unwritten policy is that basic research for individual is done for free, but we increasingly are facing request from commercial interest including property developers and their consultants. Look forward to hearing your thoughs.

  Cheers
